A: 8
I think that I showed a good understanding of the text by introducing both the context of the passage as well as the context of the book, and using sufficient evidence to support my claims
B: 5
I really think my IOC could have been better at developing my claims
C: 3
It wasn't as coherent as I wanted it to be
D: 4
I think overall my language was good and varied, and I didn't repeat myself

Hey!

I'm excited to hear your real IOC- you did a nice job here. I also know I probably (hopefully) cleared up some of your questions during the IOC review session last week. Some thoughts: I like the background you give and that you pretty much jump right in (be careful that you aren't spending too much time giving background)- you sound calm and organized. I think you've got a great use of devices here, but keep linking back to the overall purpose of the passage. That's really the effect. Keep thinking...why is Ishiguro doing what he's doing in the passage? How do you know? I also think you have clear organization in your planning, but thinking about the two questions I mention will help keep it more organized orally. As far as analysis/devices- use the big 5: https://www.thinkib.net/englishalanglit/page/11116/the-big-5
You don't give yourself enough credit!! Your context was really good, definitely one of the stronger parts of your IOC. I understood your claim but the structure of your analysis got a little wonky in the middle. Overall, you still met the demands of the prompt really well and used good evidence to support your claim, and the structure was mostly coherent. Good job!!
ReplyDeleteHey! Great job on this practice IOC. After listening to your commentary of NLMG, I have to say that your self-grading was spot on to what I had written down for each criterion, except for A where I would learn more towards a 7 on the rubric. You had good language, with a structure revolving around your outline during the 20 minutes of planning. I hope you get this text on the real IOC because you have a great understanding of the text and context of the novel. Great commentary!
