Sins = Bad (except for when you can make money off of them)

Denotative Examination:
At first glance, this advertisement is a picture of two women that could be twins fighting over a purse. They are both wearing a lot of makeup, and what looks like designer clothes. In both the top left corner and the bottom right corner it states that the add is from Louis Vuitton. The top left also says 'Monogram Vernis', which one could infer to be the bag that they are fighting over.
Connotative Examination:
When looking deeper into the picture, it can be interpreted as demonstrating the deadly sin envy, because the whole premise of the ad is that the two girls are fighting over the purse. It could be that one of them previously owned it and the other is stealing it, or it could be that they both saw it for the first time and they both want it. Regardless, it shows that they are envious of whoever ends up with the bag. I think that because the title includes IV, that this ad is a part of a multi-ad campaign, with each picture depicting one of the seven deadly sins.
After doing deeper research into this hypothesis of mine, I found that I was right, and I found the other pictures used for the other sins. After looking through them, I determined that this ad was the most clear, and did the best job of depicting the sin it was attempting to.
This ad aids to stereotypes through the fact that they are both wearing copious amounts of makeup. Louis Vuitton is a high end brand, that is historically very expensive, so the assumption could be made that people who wear very expensive clothing also wear a lot of makeup.
The Audience:
As previously mentioned, Louis Vuitton is a high end brand that is very expensive, so the target audience for this ad would be people of a higher class with access to more money. This limits the effects that it could have and the amount of people that become customers because of it. I think that although it is representing something that is supposed to be seen as a deadly sin, the ad does a good job of still making sure that it accomplishes its goal of attracting customers. By making it so two women are fighting over the bag, it shows that the bag must be of very high quality and so amazing that people would fight over it. That would also evoke envy in the audience, which would make them want to go and buy it.
I also think that the effectiveness of all of the ads in the collection is increased BECAUSE they are part of a selection. Knowing that they are all of the deadly sins, it will make the audience curious as to what the other ones are, and make them look at them all, therefore advertising more.
I think overall this is a very effective ad that does a good job of making a play of the seven deadly sins while also making sure their company is benefitting.

I really enjoyed reading while analyzing your image. I liked how you picked the sin of envy because it makes for an interesting investigation. As you said, both of these woman are viewed as wealthy women by what they are wearing and how they look emotionally. However, they both want the same purse, and I agree with your interpretation that this is a purse they both want. I believe that these women think that if they don't have this purse - or they give it up to the other - they won't be as much of a person. Overall, I liked your analysis and I agree that the audience is geared towards any customer because it brings up a good point that item don't make you, you.
